On Sunday May 21, 2017, the Billboard Awards were held at the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Award show was hosted by Vanessa Hudgens and Ludacris.
Performances
Since this award show was based solely on music, obviously there were many musical artists. Performances included; Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Celine Dion, Cher and much more!
Miley Cyrus debuted her new single, “Malibu,” she was introduced by her father, Billy Ray Cyrus and sister, Noah Cyrus. Miley sang a “country-tinged” version of her new single. After she gave her heart and soul in her performance she broke down crying.
Bruno Mars slowed down the excitement with his song “Versace on the Floor,” from his latest album, “24K.”
On the 20th anniversary of Titanic, Celine Dion sang the iconic heart-wrenching song, “My Heart Will Go On.” She wowed the audience with her performance, from the massive chandelier, to her extravagant heart shaped cape.
It was a performance that made people reminisce of the movie Titanic.
Cher also performed two of her hit songs, “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
Awards
Along with her performance, Cher won the Music Icon Award, in her brief speech she remembered her mother, and her late husband, Sonny Bono. The 71-year-old also reflected upon her fame and how she has been doing what she loves for 53 years, and she could not be happier.
According to the Billboard Music article by Gil Kaufman, Cher talked about what her mother said to her at a young age.
“You’re not going to be the smartest, you’re not going to be the prettiest, you’re not going to be the most talented , but you’re going to be special.”
Another artist who won big that night was Drake, the rapper took home 13 awards making him the artist with the most awards in a single year. Awards include; Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, and more. Drake had Adele beat, she held the record with 12 awards.
